I've been helping homebuyers since 2007 and told them, "yes, you should get a home inspection."
Now, depending on what's going on in the marketplace, you may have to write an offer in a very competitive market that the competitors, meaning - the other buyers, are waiving, you know, contingencies such as home inspections.
If you're in the same situation, you may consider a home inspection for informational purposes.
Please watch this video I have prepared for you.
This would allow you to know exactly what the home's condition is so that you can say,
"yeah, it makes sense" or "no, it doesn't make sense."
You're not going to be in a position to be able to negotiate repairs, though.
Now, if you're in a less competitive marketplace, you should do a home inspection and be able to negotiate the repairs for the home seller to:
pay some money towards those repairs
for them to do the repairs
But ultimately, you want to make sure that you understand precisely what the condition of that home is and the potential challenges or problems.
You can also do a home warranty. It's like an insurance policy that can help you further reassure that the home is in good condition, or at least if something breaks, you have insurance to pay for it.
